Hi!
I am a homesick Texan living in the Pacific Northwest. Although I miss bluebonnets, queso, and armadillos, Seattle and the Pacific Northwest have quickly become home. I graduate from the University of Washington in the fall of 2017 with an undergraduate degree in Community, Environment, Planning (CEP) and a minor in Music. On a day-to-day basis I love to play with my food, and stick my nose in any flower, bush, or nice smelling thing I can (Daphne shrubs and garlic cooking in butter are particular favorites).
I value impassioned and intentional work alongside others. Within that work I encourage my own curiosity and pursuit of knowledge. During my time as an undergraduate I've majored in vocal performance for 2 years, remained in choir all 4 years, interned at GlobeMed UW (a nonprofit, Global Health organization) for 3 years, traveled to India for a 3 month internship, managed the ASUW Student Food Cooperative for a year, and taken serious interest in ethnomusicology, nutrition, sustainability, and international studies. What a glorious, educational ride life has been thus far! |
Currently, I am a cook at Canlis a fine-dining restaurant. Cooking is a central focus of mine: I see it as a limitless pursuit. It is a skill that I could never master, containing countless methods of preparation, ingredients, and cultural contexts. Most importantly to me, food intersects with almost every aspect of being a living thing on this planet. I am able to explore food in the context of politics, human rights, health, planet well-being, biodiversity, capitalism, creative expression, cultural currency, systemic racism, sexism, and homophobia, and the personal and communal joy that cooking and eating a meal brings to people. Phew!
So how do all of these pursuits come together, you ask? Zoom in, and you will see that I am focused on community engagement within contexts of food, music, and cultural fluency. Zoom out, and you will see my love for hands on learning and my path to adding some positivity to the world. That's it for now! Check out my website, and I hope you have a genuinely good day/night/morning/evening/moment. |
